Hymers College is celebrating the successful relocation of its youngest pupils, with children from the age of three now being taught on the school’s main site for the first time.
Earlier this month, Hymers Hessle Mount – which provides education for Pre-School to Year 2 – officially moved to Hymers College in Hull, creating a unified school community for pupils from age three right through to 18, all on one campus.
The move has gone exceptionally smoothly, with pupils settling in quickly and parents praising the transition. Families have welcomed the convenience of having siblings together on the same site and the opportunities this presents for a joined-up educational journey.
Younger pupils are already benefiting from the close connection with the wider Hymers community. Older students have been taking on mentoring and buddy roles, helping the youngest children feel at home and creating a warm, nurturing atmosphere that reflects the strong values of the school.
Hymers College Headmaster Justin Stanley said: “We are absolutely delighted with how well the relocation has gone. The children have settled into their new classrooms and surroundings with ease, and the support shown by our staff, parents and older pupils has been fantastic.
“It is wonderful to see our Pre-School, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils engaging with the wider school community – whether that’s enjoying our outstanding facilities, or being inspired by our older students. The sense of togetherness across the whole school has never been stronger.”
The move means pupils of all ages now have access to the school’s extensive facilities, including its swimming pool, theatre, Music Centre and sports fields, while also benefiting from Hymers’ wide-ranging pastoral and support services.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children are now taught in dedicated classrooms within the Junior School building, while Pre-School pupils are enjoying a brand-new, purpose-built learning space. All teaching continues to be delivered by Hymers Hessle Mount staff, who have moved with the children.
Parents and carers have commented positively on the relocation, praising not only the quality of the facilities but also the friendly, inclusive atmosphere that has helped their children feel happy, safe and excited to learn.
Mr Stanley said the recent introduction of VAT on independent schools made it more important than ever to ensure funds are spent wisely, to ensure pupils receive the best possible education.
“We are absolutely committed to maintaining the highest standards of education for our pupils, while offering exceptional value for money for parents,” he said.
“The relocation of Pre-School to Year 2 to the Hymers College site is an important strategic move for the school that is entirely consistent with these twin aims.”
Families will get the chance to have a first look at the newly renovated campus at the school’s Open Event on Saturday, October 4.
