Put the Black Friday blues behind you with a crafty start to the festive season

Timebank Christmas Fayre 2019.

Hull and East Riding TimeBank invites readers to its annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday November 30, at its new home in the heart of east Hull at Marfleet Community Centre.

Weave a wreath from locally foraged foliage or upcycle bottles into icicle decorations. Children can join in the fun too, making their own lucky Christmas gift boxes, and TimeBank Kitchen will be serving up some warming festive cheer with Christmas nibbles and non-alcoholic mulled cider.

The day will also be an opportunity to explore an exciting new initiative for local residents and small businesses provided by the Mutual Aid hub.

Through unlocking skills and assets already present in communities across the city, the hub presents an opportunity for local people to move towards meaningful employment. There will also be a focus on incubating small businesses and worker cooperatives with a focus on the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit.

TimeBank Hull & East Riding Director Kate Macdonald explained: “We look forward to welcoming our members and the wider community to what promises to be a wonderful start to the Christmas season.

“Drawing on our extensive networks of people and organisations, we are sharing skills, spaces and equipment to facilitate learning and connect to support and mentoring opportunities, as we work to do more where money isn’t the only mechanism to achieve this. As well as enjoying the festive fun, people can begin their involvement with the project on Saturday.”

There will be a number of other organisations present at the Fayre including Butterfly Cities, an initiative led by Emma Hardy. The project aims to turn Hull into the world’s first butterfly city by planting more than 1,000 alder buckthorn trees to attract the Brimstone butterfly. Free saplings will be available to collect on the day to be taken home and planted in the garden.

Marfleet Residents Association will also be present hosting their annual Christmas Bonanza including Santa’s Grotto, cake and craft stalls, a tombola and much more.
