A programme which creates a stage for artists and performers from all over the world (including local and national artists) to showcase their talents and spread wonder with ticketed and free theatre, dance, contemporary circus, sideshows, audio walks, music, art exhibitions and unforgettable performances, alongside a digital programme of films, podcasts and talks on demand and online.

Freedom Festival will take place from Friday 26 August through to Sunday 4 September, ending Hull’s festival season with something truly extraordinary.

After a period of development and feedback since 2019, Freedom Festival boldly introduces a full nine-day programme, punctuated with the ‘finale weekend’ (2-4 September), alongside the small-scale but big impact work, encouraging audiences to keep coming back to explore the festival on multiple days.

This year expect a line-up of extraordinary performances and installations from across the world, including exclusive premieres of work such as a brand-new exhibition opening exclusively at Ferens Art Gallery alongside only two other galleries in the world (New York, US and Sydney, Australia) and an opening show at Hull New Theatre by the same company, Gravity & Other Myths, who are also opening the mighty Edinburgh International Festival.

Mikey Martins, Artistic Director and CEO at Freedom Festival Arts Trust, said: “We’re looking forward to our new nine-day festival format leading us into the big finale weekend that everyone expects. It’s been a tricky couple of years for us all, and we believe a festival like ours with so many different experiences and ways of enjoying the programme is truly for all to enjoy. It is the perfect way to bring everyone back together again to experience extraordinary world class and unique performances, exhibitions, discussions about what really matters, it is a festival like no other, we look forward to welcoming you to Hull.”

With the team who introduced their new festival, The Awakening, earlier this year – something the city hasn’t seen on that scale for several years – you can expect to find something inspiring, thought-provoking, spectacular and entertaining this summer at Freedom Festival, no matter what you’re into.

Schedule in your calendars to join them online on Friday 15 July for the digital launch of their full programme and tickets via their website www.freedomfestival.co.uk. Until then, you can check out their website for a preview of what’s to come and follow them on social media for updates @freedomfesthull.
