A once-in-a-lifetime event is coming to inspire and coach those learning to play the piano at all levels whether they are self- learning or learning with a teacher.

“We are so excited to arrange something for absolutely anyone who wants to turbo-charge their piano playing” said Lester Hough of Hull Piano School. “We have designed the event to inform, inspire and coach while giving participants opportunity to play on stage.”
Something for everyone
There is something for every budding pianist with three stand-alone sessions (morning, afternoon and evening.) Each session will start with a journey back in time to meet composers in a different musical period and grasp the essence of their works. Then there will be short presentations which will cover various aspects to show how even small changes can hugely impact performance. Each presentation will give learners techniques and insights to really impact their playing and make it so much more enjoyable.
Only expert piano technician, John Tordoff is trusted by the Middleton Hall management to disassemble their concert piano and in the afternoon session he will uncover the insides of a piano showing how it all works and so give pianists the keys to control the nuances of sound.
A chance to take the stage
With expert support, budding pianists are invited to come on stage and perform their chosen pieces. There they will have first class support and insightful tips. Not only will they enjoy playing the superb grand piano, but they will also receive a recording to take away.
Exceptional line up of presenters
The chance to meet with David Beer who has had a successful career as a music director in West End musicals, Julian Hellaby who is a renowned concert pianist, John Tordoff – possibly the best piano technician in the North of England, and Lester Hough who established Hull Piano School, is not to be missed. There will also be opportunity to speak with University staff about careers in music and to take in the wonderful artwork of Annmaria Dutto.
Relax and reflect
After all the inspiration and insightful input, the day will finish with a delightful concert given by Julian Hellaby leaving everyone inspired and with lots of ideas to take away.
Back to the beginning
Lester Hough and David Beer will be returning to where it all started for them as they both studied music at the University of Hull in the 70’s. Now they are keen to inspire and pass on their enthusiasm to other.
