Eight members from across the Sewell Group took part in the UK’s highest skydive to raise money for The Kirkwood, an end-of-life hospice based in Huddersfield.
The team took to the skies on Sunday 8 May, jumping 15,000ft and raising more than £3,000, with donations still flying in.
Paul Dyson, I&G Site Manager said: “I jumped at the chance to skydive as part of our charitable efforts this year – it was something that had been on my bucket list for a long time!
“I was apprehensive, but knowing it was to raise money for The Kirkwood, it was important to me to get involved. I&G have had both a personal and professional experience with The Kirkwood, completing several refurbishment and extension projects, but more importantly, two of our colleagues received the very best care and support from their amazing team.
“We had a great time with the team on the morning of the event, and I would describe it as the most exhilarating and amazing adrenaline rush!”
Not only did this event raise a significant amount of money for The Kirkwood, but it was also an opportunity for employees across the business to come together in a team bonding activity. This is important to the Sewell Group culture, especially post-pandemic when opportunities to do something like this have been limited.
Ellie Holder-Bolton, People & Training Advisor for Sewell Group added: “Skydiving to raise money for The Kirkwood was such a brilliant opportunity, a great way to come together with colleagues from across the group, and a real challenge for me personally.
“The experience was amazing, from the second I jumped out of the plane, to landing on the ground – I thoroughly enjoyed it!
“The support I received from my friends, family and colleagues in terms of donations was incredible too, and I feel like I’ve not only achieved something personally, but I’m proud to have played a small part in I&G’s £50k for 50 years too”.
This adrenaline-fuelled event follows nine other employees who abseiled off Hull’s tallest building at the end of April for the same charity and is the start of many fundraising activities throughout this year and beyond: all in celebration of the Group’s West Yorkshire construction company turning 50.
Over the next few months, people from all departments will be taking to the mud, the kitchen, and the golf course, with events to suit the group’s 500 employees across the region.
I&G is also sponsoring the highly anticipated Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees art trail, which will see 60 decorated sculptures popping up in public spaces across the borough this Autumn.
