Spring into teaching: Hull and Humber recruitment drive starts 21st March

Teacher Training providers in Hull & Humber region have joined forces to encourage new teachers into the profession.

Humanities and RE teachers at St Mary’s College get into the spirit of World Book Day earlier this month with an Alice in Wonderland theme.

National shortages of teachers are well publicised, including those in the Hull and Humber region. A group of leading local teacher training providers have joined together to offer local people the opportunity to find out more about going into teaching as a career.

Teach Hull and Humber, a local network of teacher training providers, is hosting numerous in person and online events this Spring to give the public the chance to find out whether teaching might be the career choice for them.

Jonathan Boden, the chair of the Teach Hull and Humber network, said: “If you have a degree and are interested in a career in teaching and want to have a positive impact on the future life chances of young people in our local area, this is a great opportunity. It is exciting that all local providers are working collaboratively to improve educational standards in the region by seeking to attract high calibre new staff to the teaching profession.

“If anyone is considering, or has ever previously considered, a career in teaching then there is no better time than at present, as national teacher shortages mean that successful candidates can be eligible for a tax-free bursary or a scholarship, or a salary – as well as the chance to train alongside experienced teachers in some of the leading schools in the region”.

As part of the Spring into Teaching recruitment campaign, many local schools are holding open days which give potential applicants to teacher training the chance to spend a day or more in school observing lessons and seeing first hand what the job involves. Other events include information webinars or the chance to talk to current and former trainee teachers in online meetings.
