Success for Women in Business charity luncheon

Support, friendship and networking group – Women in Business – holds biannual fundraising lunch.

Businesswomen from across the region gathered together for an afternoon of support, friendship and networking at the Women in Business biannual charity lunch.

Attracting over 100 guests, the luncheon took place at The Village Hotel in Hull, and gave women in Hull and East Yorkshire the opportunity to share ideas and experiences whilst raising money for two local charities.

Guests heard from key speaker Alice Maltby from Little Wold Vineyard in South Cave, who also won best ‘New Business’ and ‘Overall Winner’ at the 2018 Women of Achievement Awards.

Alice talked about the challenges she had overcome to build her own successful wedding planning business alongside running the award-winning vineyard on the family farm.

The date and location of the next Women in Business Women of Achievement Awards was also revealed.

The bi-annual awards, which is the organisation’s largest event – hosting 400 people, will take place next year on Friday, 6th November at The Mecure Hotel in Willerby.

A prominent event in the Hull and East Yorkshire business calendar, the awards take place from 12pm-5pm, and is set to be popular – with tickets previously selling out in just four days.

Women in Business will be holding a launch event for the awards in April to announce further details, including a high-profile guest speaker, compere, judging panel and sponsors.

Remaining sponsorship opportunities are also open to any businesses that would like to get involved with the awards.

The Women in Business luncheon raised £885 for this year’s chosen charities, Bundles of Joy and Mires Beck Nursery.

Natalie Houfe, newly appointed chair of Women in Business, said: “We were once again delighted to welcome women from all industries to our charity lunch. It’s not often you get to share a nice meal with a great group of ladies, whilst being inspired by a success story and supporting two great local charities all at the same time!

“Our women in business members raised an amazing £885, all of which will go towards our chosen charities to help them expand, whilst raising awareness and making a positive difference to peoples’ lives.”

This year’s chosen charities were Bundles of Joy and Mires Beck Nursery.

First launched in 2016, Bundles of Joy supports babies, children and their families across Hull and East Yorkshire. Their purpose is to help relieve poverty and offer support to disadvantaged families who have found themselves in need by providing clothing, nappies, toys, prams and other essential baby equipment.

Mires Beck Nursery provides opportunities for people who have a learning difficulty or disability to be involved in a working horticultural nursery and conservation project. Located in North Cave, Mires Beck is a place where people can enjoy the therapeutic benefits of gardening and horticulture. Each week more than 100 people come to be involved in this work, alongside maintaining the 14-acre rural estate, food preparation in our kitchen and making craft to sell in retail.
