Three sporting events to look forward to in 2022

Sports fans are very fortunate in Hull. With two professional rugby league teams in the Super League and a Championship side in football, there is no shortage of sport at the highest level. Here’s a look at three sporting events you may not be aware are taking place in the city in 2022 that you should look to add to your diaries.

Beverley Bullet (27th August)

Beverley Racecourse is less than 10 miles away from Hull city centre, so it is a popular venue for many racing fans throughout the summer. The new Flat season at Beverley begins in April, with the highlight of their campaign being the Beverley Bullet.

The leading jockeys and trainers tend to feature for the Beverley Bullet meeting in August, including rider William Buick, who is the odds-on favourite at 1/2 for the Champion Jockey Title in 2022, for those who bet on horse racing. Given the prestige of this race, it also attracts some of the leading sprinters in the UK and Ireland.

In 2021, Tis Marvellous produced one of the performances of the Flat season, as he broke the 5f track record at Beverley to win the race. It will be fascinating to see if any sprinter can follow that in this summer event.

World Senior Darts Matchplay (1st-3rd July)

The World Senior Darts Tour is still relatively new and the inauguration of the World Senior Darts Matchplay is a big boost for the tour. Hull will be hosting the event in 2022 at the Bonus Arena in early July.

16-time world champion Phil Taylor is considered to be the greatest darts player of all time and since he added himself to the World Senior Darts Tour, it has attracted a lot of interest. Darts fans have the chance to see some of their favourite players in Hull in what should be a great tournament.

The atmosphere in the Bonus Arena is set to be electric. Darts is a very popular sport in the city, and it is used to hosting major events such as the Premier League. This new competition is likely to be a great success and hopefully, it can remain in Hull long term.

Harlem Globetrotters (14th October)

Basketball fans have the opportunity to see the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters in Hull in October, as they will perform their show ‘The Spread Game’ at the Bonus Arena. This is a great family event, with tricks, skills and entertainment on offer from these talented players.

The Harlem Globetrotters were founded in 1926 and since then they have travelled the world, promoting basketball, and at the same time, entertaining millions of people on the court.

There will be the chance for the crowd to interact with the players in Hull. You can also purchase tickets to meet the players after the event for autographs and pictures. If you are a basketball fan, this is not an opportunity to be missed this year.

If you are lucky enough to have a ticket to one of the above three events in 2022, have fun and hopefully you come away having had a fantastic experience.
