Hull-based charity, Fitmums and Friends, is celebrating a key milestone since the launch of its new smartphone app. Runners using the app, which was developed by local technology agency, Umber Creative, have logged a total of 40,000 miles of activity since February, which is enough to take them around the world.
The app is used by over 800 runners each week, and allows the charity to access statistics and data at the tap of a button. It’s revolutionised the way the charity assesses their impact for funding applications and has facilitated an increase in subscriptions as well as expansion into North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Fitmums and Friends Founder, Sam Barlow BEM, explains:
“Prior to launching the app, it would take our staff and volunteers hours of admin time to tally up key snippets of data for funding applications to highlight how we’re helping people in the community. For example, since February alone our runners have logged 11,000 separate instances of activity, and to log all of that manually would have literally taken us days. When you’re running a charity, time is extremely valuable, so to be able to see insights in an instant is a real game changer for us.”
Sam continues: “The work Umber Creative has done for us has had an incredible impact on the charity as a whole. They haven’t just developed our app, they’ve streamlined our processes by digitising our subscriptions, built a new website and helped to solve our tech headaches. Since we started working with them, we’ve managed to focus more on growth. As a result, we’ve seen an increase in subscriptions of 15% and now operate from three new locations. We’re very excited about where we’ll be in another five months’ time!”
Kevin Wilkie, Creative Director for Umber Creative, comments: “It’s great to see the positive affect the smartphone app has had on Fitmums and Friends in such a short amount of time. The team can now manage memberships, sell their merchandise and log all data digitally, with automations in place to take the hard work out of daily tasks. We’re thrilled to have helped the team to change the way they work for the better and would like to congratulate their runners on reaching such an amazing milestone!”
Fitmums and Friends was launched in 2009 by Sam Barlow BEM, who initially set up a running club to meet other parents, after her eldest child started school. Since then, the initiative has grown to become a registered charity with over 1,000 subscribers. The charity organises a variety of group sessions every week including walking, running, cycling, junior athletics and buggy bootcamps.
Umber Creative was established in 2010 to deliver both online and offline creative solutions. The team of 6 designers and developers are based at the agency’s recently purchased HQ in St Mark’s Square, Hull. Umber Creative offers a variety of services including bespoke web design and development, graphic design and software development.
