Works complete to enhance Hull Marina’s waterfront

Work to create a more vibrant, accessible waterfront at Hull Marina has now been completed, transforming a key area along Humber Dock Street and strengthening its connection with the neighbouring Fruit Market.

The improvements enhance a prominent dockside space on Hull Marina, creating a more welcoming environment for residents, visitors and businesses, while celebrating the area’s strong independent and creative character.

This initiative forms part of Hull City Council’s ongoing efforts to improve the city’s waterfront, enhance accessibility and support local businesses.

The works were delivered by local contractor CR Reynolds and funded by National Highways, as part of a wider programme to improve the public realm and pedestrian experience across Hull city centre.

The completed works include:

  • Improved accessibility for all
The dockside promenade has been fully resurfaced, creating a smoother and more accessible route.
  • More tree planting and landscaping
New landscaping and planting areas have been introduced around existing trees, increasing the green space, reducing surface water and supporting biodiversity.
  • New casual and formal seating
A mix of seating has been added, alongside flexible outdoor commercial spaces linked to businesses along Humber Dock Street, encouraging people to pause, rest and enjoy the waterfront.
  • New play elements
A new play area, an urban discovery trail and playful seating incorporating the city walls have been introduced to create a more family-friendly environment.
  • Increased cycling parking
A repair station and additional cycle stands have been installed to encourage active travel.
  • Enhanced heritage assets
Existing features, including the steam engine and elements of Hull’s Fish Trail, have been retained and enhanced through improvements to their setting.
  • The installation of the new power bollards
This allows boats mooring against the marina wall to access power which they haven’t be able to do before. It makes better use of the marina, allowing larger vessels to moor.
