£25,000 donation to Hull 4 Heroes to help fund mental health care in the community for veterans

Yorkshire-based financial advisers Navigation Wealth Management has handed over a cheque for an incredible £25,000 to veterans’ charity Hull 4 Heroes.

Navigation Wealth’s CEO Matt Hammond presenting a cheque for £25,000 to Paul Matson BEM, Founder of Hull 4 Heroes

The firm, part of the St. James’s Place group, worked with Hull 4 Heroes to apply for funding from the St. James’s Place Foundation to help fund mental health and wellbeing in the community for ex-armed forces personnel and their families struggling to adapt to life after a career in the services.

Matt Hammond, Chief Executive at Navigation Wealth, which has offices in Beverley and Wakefield, said the money will help fund and support the Veterans’ drop-in centre in Princes Quay Hull, which is now up and running and already changing lives.

“We are extremely proud to be able to support such a tremendous charity in the local area.  We can’t underestimate what a difference Hull 4 Heroes is making to veterans in the community. This donation will make a huge difference and provide much needed services for years ahead.”

Many veterans returning from service find themselves adrift from society and become homeless.  The Hull 4 Heroes charity aims to ensure that they have all the support they need to transition back into civilian life.  That includes creating homes and providing education as well as sourcing employment opportunities.

The charity’s Founder, Paul Matson BEM, said:

“We are absolutely overjoyed at this amazing donation and want to say a massive thank you to Matt Hammond and Navigation Wealth Management for supporting us with our application to the St. James Place Charitable Foundation.

“Our veterans now have a place to meet up, instead of staying home alone.  They are forming friendships, rebuilding their lives and remembering that so important camaraderie.

“We have now had over 200 members of the Armed Forces Community coming through the doors with repeat visits on a daily or weekly basis.  Two examples include a veteran who now comes in every day for a coffee and a game of dominoes with our volunteers.  He has a very ill wife, who he cares for, and this is his only respite each day.  We have another female veteran who has not left her house in months due to ill health and anxiety who now calls our drop-in centre her ‘second safe space.’  The Veterans Hub is really making a difference, so thank you again for your ongoing support of our Armed Forces community.”

Hull 4 Heroes is also developing a Veterans’ Village to develop a self-sustaining site for the housing and rehabilitation of ex-service men and women, on a scale never seen before.  Matt Hammond continued:

“Navigation Wealth and Hull 4 Heroes have formed close allegiances over the years and we are proud to work with such an amazing charity.  We hope to continue to assist in supporting many more worthwhile projects for years to come.”
