In the run up to Father’s Day this weekend, Hull bus operator, Stagecoach East Midlands, has highlighted the work done by two sets of fathers and sons to keep the wheels turning for local buses.
Liam Waudby, a Bus Driver from Hull, joined Stagecoach, 16 years ago, when his dad, Stephen, was already the Interchange Supervisor. Although they were both initially cautious due to a family estrangement, they have found that working together, to make sure that local people can get where they need to go, has brought them closer together.
Stephen said: “Liam coming to work for Stagecoach has been a brilliant experience. We work well together and have more time to chat. Yes, it’s been good working alongside Liam.
“Both of us working together has created a bond for the rest of our lives. It’s a very proud experience for us both.”
Pride is again the hallmark of the relationship between Bus Driver, Josh, and Relief Delegated Driving Examiner, Adam Wales. Adam initially joined Stagecoach as a Driver, wanting a fresh start after 16 years in teaching.
He chose Stagecoach because of the size and reputation of the company, and so was delighted when, son, Josh chose to join him. Adam said: “I was pleased, knowing that he would be working for a great company. And now I am always very proud. It’s great knowing that my son is with a company that is well established and do things in the right way.”
Families play an important role at Stagecoach East Midlands. At the recent Long Service Awards, the bus operator handed over a cheque for £3,789.52, raised by the team for the outstanding work done by Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. Team members ran bake sales, raffles and other charity events to support families in hugely difficult circumstances.
