Hull-based theatre company 1UPSTARTS will shortly be launching their brand new interactive horror audiowalk ‘Curioptica’, launching at 10am on Saturday 19 October from the Welcome Information Centre in Paragon Station.
The experience is completely free to take part in and can be downloaded through the ‘Echoes’ app onto your smartphone. Physical maps of the route will be available through the Welcome Information Centre, and the walk will be available beyond the launch date until 31 November. So join them this coming Saturday and dare to face the horrors of ‘Curioptica’!
Dragged into a hidden world that they never knew existed, ‘Curioptica’ will give audiences a glimpse into the otherworldly underbelly of Hull where danger lurks around every corner. This show will have you scouring Hull for clues whilst assisting a crack team of operatives from the secretive Curioptica, an ancient cabal that’s existed in the shadows for centuries, saving people from a terrible fate. Learn about their histories and the horrifying monsters and events they’ve had to face that pulled them into this world in the first place, and help save Hull from a terrible cult, The Sanguine Symphony! But just remember, there’s multiple ways this could all end, and the decision is up to you…
Developed as a project in collaboration with the Goodwin Development Trust and the Youth Arts Takeover programme, alongside receiving support from Hull City Council’s City Arts, 1UPSTARTS has been working with young people aged 16-29 to develop horror stories to be experienced throughout Hull’s city centre. Over several weeks of workshops and conversations, the characters and narratives present in the piece were carefully designed, before being further developed and realised for the final product.
Lee Watt P, Artistic Director of 1UPSTARTS Theatre Company, said: “It’s been an absolute privilege working alongside these young people, and again having the opportunity to work with Goodwin. The inventiveness and artistic instinct these young people bring to the table is a delight to work with, and we’ve enjoyed every moment. Now we’re just very excited to share the final product with the rest of Hull!”
