Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s charity Health Stars is calling on the community to help bring some festive cheer to people receiving mental health care and support in hospital this Christmas.

While many people look forward to spending the festive season with family and friends, some adults and young people will spend Christmas in hospital as they receive treatment and support for their mental health.
Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health inpatient services for children, young people and adults across Hull and East Yorkshire.
Following the success of last year’s appeal, Health Stars is asking local residents, organisations and businesses to donate gifts to help make Christmas a little brighter for patients spending the festive period in the Trust’s care.
Anita Green, Charity Manager for Health Stars, said: “Christmas can be a difficult time for many people, particularly those who are receiving treatment in hospital and are away from their usual support networks. For some, it can be a time when feelings of loneliness and isolation feel even more pronounced.
“A gift may seem like a small gesture, but it can help someone feel remembered and connected to their community. We’re hoping the community will once again get behind the appeal and help us bring some festive cheer to patients this Christmas.”
The appeal is seeking donations of new, unwrapped gifts suitable for both adults and young people. Gifts can be dropped off at collection points across Hull and East Yorkshire.
People can also support the appeal by purchasing items directly from the Health Stars Amazon Wishlist or by making a cash donation, which will be used to buy additional gifts for patients.
One of the services that will benefit from the appeal is Inspire, the Trust’s CAMHS inpatient unit for young people aged 12 to 17. While being in hospital over Christmas is not where any young person wants to be, donations from the local community help staff make the day as special as possible, creating positive memories and reminding young people that they are valued and supported.
Every donation will help remind those spending Christmas in mental health services that they are not forgotten and that their community is thinking of them during the festive season.
