The chosen charity, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, is an independent organisation that provides a lifesaving rapid response emergency service to five million people across communities in Yorkshire and relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations to ensure the service can continue.
The charity, set up in 2000, now operates its own Dedicated Air Desk for rapid dispatch of its helicopters to an incident. Over the last two decades, Yorkshire Air Ambulance has grown year on year to become a service delivering the highest possible standard of pre-hospital care to the people of Yorkshire, flying over 8,000 patients to major trauma centres across the region.
As part of the charity of the year initiative, Barratt Developments Yorkshire East will be raising money throughout the year to support Yorkshire Air Ambulance and has various fundraising activities already arranged including the annual Red Ball event – which raised a staggering £25,000 in 2021 for its charity of the year, Safe and Sound Homes (SASH).
Helen Callear, Director of Fundraising East and North Yorkshire at Yorkshire Air Ambulance, commented: “We’re extremely grateful that Barratt Developments Yorkshire East has chosen Yorkshire Air Ambulance as its charity of the year. We are always thankful for the generous support and fundraising from local businesses and individuals, it’s because of this that we can make a difference to so many people’s lives in our community.”
Daniel Smith, Managing Director of Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, said: “Yorkshire Air Ambulance provides a vital air emergency service to Yorkshire, and we’re delighted to be able to help such a worthy charity with our support across the year. We are looking forward to all of the fundraising activities planned, including our annual Red Ball event. We hope these funds will go a long way in supporting the amazing work that they do across our region.”
Last year, Barratt Developments Yorkshire East donated over £60,000 to worthy causes throughout the region. This includes £50,000 being donated to the housebuilder’s previous charity of the year, SASH, and £10,000 to The UK Sepsis Trust; a charity which the housebuilder has a long relationship with.
In addition to this, over £17,000 was donated to local charities in the Yorkshire region as part of the builder’s Community Fund initiative. As well as over £18,000 being donated to York City Knights as part of the ongoing partnership the housebuilder has with the organisation.
