Bishop Burton College are thrilled to announce they are hosting an exciting new family friendly day out on Sunday 20 March.
Building on the hugely popular Lambing Sunday that the College ran for many years, Spring Live is an all-new fun-packed day, which will allow the public to explore the beautiful campus grounds and enjoy an array of family orientated entertainment and activities.
Exclusive hands-on animal feeding experiences headline an exciting array of fun-filled action; including an obstacle course, tractor display, mini tractors, creepy crawly and reptile encounters, super slime making, test tube plants, the chance to ride our mechanical horse, murder mystery and archery. Plus, you can try your hand at brick laying, bushcraft skills, cooking, flower arranging and arts and crafts.
There will also be an opportunity to see our students and staff showcase their talents and expertise with a state-of-the-art robotics and technology showcase in our purpose-built Institute of Technology, learn how to care for British wildlife, and tour our kennels complete with dog grooming demonstrations. Visitors can also watch showjumping and high energy barrel racing in our Equine Arena.
Ultimately, the aim of the day is to celebrate the arrival of the College’s four and two legged bundles of joy. Visitors will be able to head to the farm to witness live lambing in the lambing shed, see the newly hatched game chicks and visit our cows. James Richardson, Farm Manager commented “There is nothing more special than witnessing a live birth and I can’t wait to welcome the local community onto the farm to share these amazing moments with us. Whilst there will be no cuddling of the little ones this year, you’ll still be able to get a good view of our new arrivals for a cute fix!”
The College is very grateful to event sponsor East Riding of Yorkshire Council in conjunction with the East Riding of Yorkshire Rural Partnership, who will be on-site at Spring Live all day to celebrate the many positive aspects of our rural areas and the benefits of a close working relationship with Bishop Burton College. Together, the Rural Partnership and the College will be launching an exciting competition to design artwork for the new East Riding of Yorkshire Rural Strategy. Anyone wishing to enter the competition will be able to do so on the day.
Sir Ian Macdonald of Sleat, Chairman of the East Riding of Yorkshire Rural Partnership, commented “We’re delighted to be working with Bishop Burton on this amazing community event. What better place to kick-start our fantastic art competition in conjunction with our new Rural Strategy. Visitors will have no shortage of inspiration to bring the positive strategies and plans for our rural communities to life.”
Spring Live will open at 10.30am and close at 3pm. Tickets cost £7 for adults, £5 for children and a family ticket for 4 is available for advance purchases via Eventbrite.
Bishop Burton’s Chief Executive and Principal, Bill Meredith, said: “I’m delighted to invite the public to come and join us for this new and exciting event. Lambing Sunday was always a highlight of the year for the college and we’re confident Spring Live will be even more entertaining. We have some fantastic new experiences for people to enjoy alongside firm Lambing Sunday favourites. We look forward to welcoming the local community back onto the campus to celebrate all that is special about springtime in the countryside”
