Bishop Burton College re-accredited with international quality Matrix Standard

Bishop Burton College are pleased to announce they have been re-accredited with the Matrix Standard international quality standard for delivering information, advice and/or guidance (IAG).

The Matrix Standard is the Department for Education’s (DfE) standard for ensuring the excellence of the delivery of high-quality information and guidance. The Matrix helps education providers such as Bishop Burton benchmark themselves against best practice through a quality framework for accrediting information, advice and guidance contracts including the National Careers Service.

An independent assessor visited the college to confirm all the criteria were met and the feedback received by the college was glowing, with the college being re-accredited for the next three years.

Particular mention was made of the proactive and positive attitudes of staff and how their ‘ready to help’ approach was backed up by robust and accessible support mechanisms for students. This included investment in Student Services resource despite the tightening of budgets across the education sector and the highly visible and accessible IAG services such as Careers and Health and Welfare. Additional Learning Support received special mention for their high-quality service, ensuring student needs are met to ‘find their place’ and are well integrated into college life. Overall, the assessor commented that the college has ‘a very strong and positive student-centred culture’.

Head of Student Services, Katy Langfield, commented: “To have received the Matrix Standard for another three years is incredibly rewarding, as the assessor looks not only at the processes we use to support IAG delivery but also at the results we achieve. This demonstrates that our provision and approach is delivering to an incredibly high standard. It really is testament to the enthusiasm, hard work and dedication of the team here at the college. I am incredibly proud of all they have achieved and the fantastic results we are delivering.”

Demonstrating the college’s diligence in delivering a student-centric experience, the accreditation follows in the footsteps of Bishop Burton receiving the national Quality in Careers Standard for its careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) provision in June.

Chief Executive and Principal, Bill Meredith, said: “Being re-accredited with the Matrix Standard is an outstanding achievement, demonstrating our continued commitment to provide our students with the information, advice and guidance to enable them to make the most of their time with us. It reflects the dedication of our staff to ensure that students at Bishop Burton College are happy and safe and have the platform they need to succeed. Our students come first and to receive such fantastic feedback acknowledging this is incredibly gratifying.”
