Celebration of student achievement and success at Bishop Burton College

Bishop Burton College hosted students, friends and family, industry partners and guests for four special events over two days, to celebrate student success.

Several students received individual honours and trophies

The Celebration Events, which are held annually are an opportunity to recognise and applaud the hard work of students completing qualifications this summer. This year the college hosted the events in the Sports Hall on campus, which was transformed into a special venue for the events.

Following a warm welcome from Chair of Governors Ian Sackree, further education students completing courses in a range of subjects including agriculture, animal management, equine, sport, engineering, art and design, public services and health and social care, received certificates of achievement, during the various ceremonies.

Several students also received individual honours, including Best Student for the relevant curriculum areas and several specialist trophies, presented by Principal and Chief Executive Bill Meredith. The event was especially poignant for Bill as it was his last Celebration before retiring in July. A very special award for Creative Writing was also introduced this year in memory of English Lecturer Alex Ramsden.

Following the presentation of awards, the Chair of Governors left the students with some inspirational words as the ceremony concluded.

Ian said “We live in a challenging world but I am confident you are prepared for whatever you do next, whether going into employment or onto further study, thanks to your time with us.  You will always be a part of the Bishop Burton family as alumni of the college and welcome here any time but I know you are now ready to take forward all of the skills, knowledge and resilience you have acquired into your future career. A huge thanks to your family and friends for all their support and of course the amazing team at Bishop Burton College.”

The ceremonies were followed by delicious Afternoon Tea held in the Meadows, giving students an opportunity to mingle and celebrate with family and friends and the Bishop Burton team.

Bill Meredith, Chief Executive and Principal of the college, near Beverley said: “Huge congratulations to all of the students completing their studies today. They have been on a journey of discovery, overcoming challenges and developing new skills. All should be incredibly proud of their achievements and enjoy their moment in the spotlight. Thanks to the hard-work and dedication of the Bishop Burton team I am confident they are fully prepared for the future and I wish them all the very best for their careers or continuing education.”
