Concrete Youth announce Sea Sense and Sensory Storybook programmes

Concrete Youth has announced two new, monthly sensory story programmes for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, Sea Sense and Sensory Storybook, in partnership with The Deep and Hull Libraries.

In partnership with renowned aquarium, The Deep, Sea Sense will be a monthly story massage session for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities in the Hull and East Yorkshire area. All sessions will consist of an original, sea-themed story, surrounded by the animals of The Deep, immersed in the sensory world of story massage.

Katy Duke, CEO of The Deep said: “The Deep is delighted to be supporting the ‘Sea Sense’ project. A close neighbour of ours, Concrete Youth’s work in sensory theatre and storytelling resonates with The Deep’s own aims to provide inclusive and accessible experiences to all. The project is a great opportunity for people to experience story massage within an immersive space, in an attractive aquarium setting.”

A revival of their previous programme, Sensory Storybook is back and in partnership with Hull Libraries. For people with profound and multiple learning disabilities in the Hull and East Yorkshire area, the session will consist of an original story, complemented with immersive sensory engagement and craft activities.

Michelle Alford, Library Services Director of Hull Libraries said: “Hull Libraries are delighted that Concrete Youth have secured Arts Council Funding for such an amazing project. As soon as we heard of their plans, we wanted to work with them and give our support, it’s very exciting!”

Daniel Swift, CEO & Co-Artistic Director of Concrete Youth said: “I’m delighted that we’re working with The Deep and Hull Libraries. The organisations have fantastic access provisions and commitments to people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. We’re excited to work with them on these fantastic projects to provide regular sensory and artistic provision for our audience.”

Sea Sense and Sensory Storybook sessions are completely free and cash donations will be accepted to go towards Concrete Youth’s charity funds.

Booking for sessions will be opened two months at a time and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Bookings can be made at www.concreteyouth.co.uk.
