Concrete Youth has been announced as a finalist in OffWestEnd’s OFFiette Award for their production of Winter Wonderland, in partnership with Hull New Theatre.
The online, multi-sensory show for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) was originally released in December 2020, before being re-released in November 2021 until last month. The show was originally nominated in January 2021, before being made a finalist on Friday 4 December. The winner of the award will be announced on Sunday 20 February at 7pm as part of an online ceremony
Concrete Youth’s CEO & Co-Artistic Director, Daniel Swift FRSA said: “Being nominated for the award back in 2021 was such a surprise and it was so lovely to have been recognised for our work on this project, and now to be a finalist in this category is absolutely incredible.
We made this show at a time when people with profound and multiple learning disabilities were still shielding, when it wasn’t safe for them to visit theatres, even though millions of other people could attend. We wanted to make a show that engaged them at home, in a safe way, but a way that was accessible, high quality and done through the sensory ways that we know and love here at Concrete Youth. I’m so proud of this production and I’m so glad it’s being recognised.”
It’s winter: the days are shorter, the trees are looking bare and the temperatures have plummeted. But…there’s no show! The Snow Machine in Winter Wonderland has broken and, if it can’t be fixed, winter will be ruined forever!
But all is not lost. Jack Frost and the Snow Queen have heard that you, the winterns at home, can help them. Can you work out why it’s broken? Will you help Jack and Snow mend it and save winter? And does yellow snow really taste like chicken?
Winter Wonderland was presented in partnership with Hull New Theatre, and supported by Arts Council England, Hull City Council, Hull Culture & Leisure and Back to Ours.
