Dove House Hospice brings new concept charity shop to Hull

A new charity retail concept is coming to Hull that promises to revolutionise secondhand shopping in the city. Dove House Hospice is launching ‘The Market’ on Saturday 20 July – a reimagined thrift store experience.

The Market by Dove House is at the forefront of the re-use, re-purpose, and re-love movement. The Market is a vibrant shopping outlet, appealing to those who are looking for unique, one-of-a-kind pieces while promoting a greener lifestyle.

“We’re really promoting the idea of thrifting and second-hand shopping,” says Jenny Rowan, Head of Retail at Dove House. “Not only is it better for the environment, but it also allows people to express their individuality and creativity through fashion. We want to make thrifting cool and accessible for everyone.

“The Market is unlike any other charity shop in the area. It’s the sustainable solution for style lovers and from the moment you step inside, you’ll be wowed by the thoughtful merchandising and discover intelligently arranged collections of vintage homewares, preloved fashion, unique antiques and more.

“The team has hand-picked and carefully merchandised every single item to create a true destination shopping experience.”

The Market’s mission is to cater to eco-conscious consumers seeking sustainable fashion and home decor. Each purchase directly benefits the compassionate hospice care that Dove House provides to our local community.

Situated at Unit 2, Malmo Road on the Sutton Fields Industrial Estate, The Market is a convenient location en-route to Kingswood and other local retail parks, also ideal for the local workforce on Sutton Fields Industrial Estate, offering an easily accessible retail experience by car and bus.

“We’ll be open every day, giving people who work at Sutton Fields the opportunity to pop out during their lunch break to find something special for the weekend or an upcoming occasion. It’s just a short journey from the city centre by bus, bike or car.”

More than just shopping, The Market will offer a rotating calendar of special events, pop-ups, workshops and more to create a dynamic, community-focused experience.

“We want The Market to be a place where people not only find unique pieces but also learn about sustainable living, up-cycling skills and reducing environmental impact.

“Dove House Hospice’s vision is to ensure that every adult within our community with a life-limiting illness enjoys the best possible quality of life, with easy access to high-quality palliative care in the setting of their choice.

“Our 32 shops, soon to be 33 with the opening of The Market, play a crucial role in supporting this vision, raising over half the total income needed for the running of Dove House Hospice. This vital revenue stream from our shops helps make our essential services possible, allowing us to continue providing compassionate care to those who need it most.”

The Market’s grand opening on Saturday 20 July marks an exciting new chapter for charity retail in Hull. Local people are encouraged to follow @themarketbydovehouse on social media for sneak peeks and updates leading up to the launch.

By choosing to donate and shop at The Market, customers can score incredible deals while supporting Dove House’s vital hospice services – all while embracing sustainable consumption.
