In a bold move to support sustainable fashion and raise funds for hospice care, Dove House Hospice is participating in Secondhand September with a special end-of-season 50p sale, at their Whitefriargate shop in Hull, starting on Saturday 21 September.
This promotion will continue throughout the month, with all clothing items priced at just 50p, offering an unbeatable opportunity for shoppers to refresh their wardrobes while supporting a worthy cause.
Jennifer Rowan, Head of Retail at Dove House, commented on the initiative: “We’re thrilled to be part of Secondhand September with our 50p clothing sale. This campaign aligns perfectly with our values of sustainability and community support. By offering affordable, pre-loved clothing, we’re not only helping our customers save money, but also contributing to a more sustainable fashion cycle. Every purchase directly supports the vital hospice care we provide across Hull and East Yorkshire.
“The 50p sale will continue at our Whitefriargate shop while stocks last, and we invite everyone in Hull to come down, browse our collection, and enjoy a friendly shopping experience.”
Secondhand September, an annual awareness campaign initiated by Oxfam, encourages consumers to buy only second-hand clothing for the entire month. This initiative aims to challenge the culture of overconsumption and highlight the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
Jennifer adds: “The fashion sector is one of the world’s most polluting industries, with an estimated 11 million items of clothing ending up in UK landfills each week. By choosing second-hand options, customers can help reduce waste and the demand for new clothing production.”
Dove House Hospice’s participation in this campaign goes beyond environmental concerns. As Jennifer explains, “Our shops are crucial in funding the hospice’s services. By shopping with us during Secondhand September, customers are not only making an eco-friendly choice but also directly supporting hospice care for people in Hull and East Yorkshire.”
The Whitefriargate shop, known for its diverse range of pre-loved items, is expected to see increased foot traffic during this promotion. Shoppers can find unique pieces to enhance their personal style while contributing to a circular economy.
This initiative is part of Dove House Hospice’s broader commitment to sustainability and community service. The organisation operates 33 shops across the region, offering a wide range of second-hand goods including clothing, accessories, homewares, and more.
Dove House Hospice hopes to inspire more people to consider the impact of their fashion choices and the power of second-hand shopping in supporting local charities and environmental sustainability.
