Emmaus Hull & East Riding has gone pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, taking part in the annual Wear it Pink campaign to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Now. This year, the campaign has a particularly personal meaning for the charity, following CEO Stephanie Dixon’s breast cancer diagnosis in January 2026.

To mark the occasion, colleagues and companions (people who live at Emmaus) came together to show their support for everyone affected by breast cancer. From wearing pink and baking treats to shaving their heads and fundraising, the team has found its own ways to get involved and make a difference.
For Stephanie, the campaign hits close to home. Since her diagnosis, she has undergone a mastectomy and completed 18 weeks of chemotherapy. She is now awaiting further surgery and treatment.
Despite everything she has been through, Stephanie has continued working at Emmaus Hull & East Riding, with the support of colleagues, companions and the charity’s Board.
Sharing her experience, Stephanie said: “January 2026 was the moment everything changed for me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and since then, I’ve experienced a year I could never have imagined.
Throughout it all, I’ve been fortunate enough to carry on working at Emmaus Hull & East Riding. Emmaus is all about people and supporting those who have often been through some incredibly difficult experiences themselves.
“I’ve always believed that you can still be there for others, even when life isn’t going exactly to plan for you.
At Emmaus, we know how important it is to stand alongside people during difficult times. We also believe charities have an important role to play in supporting one another and raising awareness of causes that affect so many lives.
I’ve been surrounded by an amazing team, our companions and our Board. Their kindness, understanding and support throughout my treatment have meant more than they probably realise.”
Stephanie isn’t the only person in the Emmaus team with a personal connection to breast cancer. Colleague Sue is celebrating seven years cancer-free this year, making the team’s support for Breast Cancer Now even more meaningful.
By taking part in Wear it Pink, Emmaus Hull & East Riding hopes to help raise awareness, support, vital research and show anyone affected by breast cancer that they’re not alone.
You can support the fundraising campaign
The charity is inviting members of the public to support its fundraising efforts by donating through Stephanie’s JustGiving page to Breast Cancer Now. Every donation will help support Breast Cancer Now and its work for people affected by breast cancer.
