Ofsted recognises attendance and behaviour provision is “of the highest standard nationally” and something other schools can learn from.

Tweendykes School, part of Humber Education Trust, is celebrating following a highly successful Ofsted inspection, which recognised the school’s Attendance and Behaviour provision as Exceptional. Inspectors found that the school’s practice is “of the highest standard nationally” and confirmed that it is something from which other schools can learn.
The report shines a spotlight on the deeply caring and compassionate culture at Tweendykes, where pupils are supported through highly personalised approaches that place their individual needs, wellbeing and development at the heart of everything the school does. Inspectors found that “highly positive and truly nurturing relationships are at the heart of the school’s accomplished approach” and recognised the genuine affection and respect shown towards pupils by staff.
Ofsted praised the school’s understanding of the complex needs of its pupils and its ability to create an environment where children and young people feel safe, valued and empowered to succeed. The report highlighted the school’s “extremely beneficial and personalised culture”, noting that staff work tirelessly to understand the reasons behind behaviours and provide tailored support that helps pupils manage emotions, develop communication skills and flourish both in school and beyond.
Inspectors also celebrated the school’s strong partnerships with families, recognising the trust that parents and carers place in staff and the impact these relationships have on pupils’ lives. The report noted that these connections are “remarkably effective”, helping families feel supported and ensuring pupils receive consistent care both at home and at school.
The report further highlighted the school’s commitment to inclusion and wellbeing, recognising that pupils benefit from “ambitious, warm and compassionate support” and develop trusting relationships with adults who know them exceptionally well. Pupils told inspectors they feel safe in school and know that staff are always there to help them when needed.
Headteacher Yvonne Briggs expressed her pride at the outcome: “We are incredibly proud that Ofsted recognised the caring and compassionate culture that makes Tweendykes such a special place. Every child who attends our school is unique and our staff are deeply committed to ensuring that every pupil feels understood, valued and able to achieve their very best.
This recognition belongs to our entire school community. I am immensely proud of our dedicated staff, our inspiring pupils and the families who place their trust in us every day. Together, we have created a school where relationships come first and where children and young people are given every opportunity to thrive.”
Rachel Wilkes OBE, CEO of Humber Education Trust, also praised the school: “This is a wonderful celebration of the exceptional work taking place every day at Tweendykes School. The report shines a light on the warmth, expertise and commitment of every member of staff and the profound difference they make to pupils and their families.
To receive an Exceptional judgement, recognised as practice of the highest standard nationally, is a remarkable achievement. It is a testament to the school’s relentless focus on putting children and young people at the centre of everything it does. The Tweendykes team go above and beyond to ensure that pupils and families feel supported, respected and empowered. We are incredibly proud that inspectors have recognised not only the impact of this work, but also its value as a model from which other schools can learn.”
Beyond the Exceptional judgement for Attendance and Behaviour, inspectors graded all aspects of the school’s provision as ‘strong’, including achievement, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, personal development and wellbeing, and post-16 provision. The report celebrates Tweendykes as a highly inclusive and supportive school where staff and leaders share an unwavering commitment to improving the lives and outcomes of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
The inspection outcome is a significant moment for the school and reflects the collective efforts of pupils, staff, governors, trustees, parents, carers and partners who work together to ensure that every child receives the care, support and opportunities they deserve.
