Female rugby teams in Hull get housebuilder’s cash

A Hull rugby club has secured a £1,000 donation for its rapidly expanding girls’ team.

Hull Ionians RUFC has received a £1,000 donation from a housebuilder to support its growing girls’ team

Hull Ionians RUFC has seen an increase in new members and plans to use the funds, from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, for new kit and equipment.

Simon Cowling from the rugby club said: “We currently have three girls’ teams from under 18s to under 13s and have a steady stream of new enquiries.

“We have been busy fundraising for new kit and additional training equipment, so Persimmon Homes’ donation is a huge boost to our efforts ensuring the players are ready to play.

“We also plan to create starter kits for those players from families on lower incomes to ensure all girls can enjoy the sport.”

Under The Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, the Yorkshire regional business provides financial support of up to £1,000 to two local charities or good causes, every month.

Scott Waters, Managing Director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, added: “The Community Champions scheme is all about supporting good causes in the community.

“We are delighted to be supporting a club that is embracing more females to a sport often associated with men.”

Persimmon Homes is currently building stunning new homes at Mulberry Gardens in Hull.
