People of all ages and experience levels have a last chance to enter the Alec Gill and Giroscope International Photography Competition, and face-to-face help is available for anyone who would like support submitting their photographs online.

The competition, themed HOME, closes at midnight on Friday 30th October 2026 and is open to amateur and professional photographers in Hull, across the UK and internationally.
Anyone who has a photograph they would like to enter but needs help with the online process can bring it to St Matthew’s Community Enterprise Centre, Hull, by arrangement. To arrange a visit, email claire@giroscope.org.uk.
There will also be an opportunity to get help at the information point at Hull Paragon Interchange on Saturday 24th October 11am – 3pm where people can get help with their online entries.
Claire Taylor, Communication Manager at Giroscope and competition judge, said: “We are looking for photography that tells a story, and we want people to think about the theme of HOME, which means different things to different people.
We want as many people as possible to take part, and we know that for some people the online entry process can be a barrier. If you have a photograph you are proud of, please don’t let that put you off; help is available.”
There are fees for both competition categories:
Adult category, 18+: £5 for up to two photographs, with a £500 prize.
Young people’s category, 17 and under: £2 for up to two photographs, with a £300 photography equipment award.
The competition asks photographers to respond to the theme HOME, exploring what home means through people, places, memories and everyday life.
It is named after Hull photographer Alec Gill, whose work documented communities experiencing housing, industrial and social change.
The competition was launched this year as part of the ‘Giroscope 40’ celebrations, marking four decades of working with communities to provide decent housing, skills, confidence and enterprise support.
Entries close at midnight on Friday 30th October 2026.
