Food firm is on a roll as it launches the ONODog in major shopping centre

A food business which has operated almost undercover in Hull for 10 years has now taken a prime spot in a major shopping centre after unveiling its latest product.

ONOFood, which is based in The Deep Business Centre, made its name supplying other people’s products until the launch of its own Meow Slush nearly five years ago.

Other own-brand products followed with ONOCoffee, ONOCocktails and ONOSquashee and now the company has added the ONODog, sourced from sausage specialists in Germany and stirring the senses of shoppers in St Stephen’s.

The company has also developed the machinery needed to serve the products and sells to over 200 sites across the country including leisure locations. In its home city and surrounding area it feeds the crowds at destinations including Hull Ice Arena, Hull Karting and Haltemprice Sports Centre, but the St Stephen’s venture is ONOFood’s first dedicated, own-brand stall.

The hot dogs come from a supplier in the Harz mountains in Lower Saxony and the range offers more than 20 fillings including a variety of meats, different type of cheese and pickles, jalapeno, peppers, crispy onions and more. Customers can also choose from over 15 sauces including ketchup, mustard, garlic mayo, and Remoulade.

The bread is from a local supplier and the shakes use ice cream from the famous Mr Moo’s at Skipsea on the East Yorkshire coast. They also offer vegan shakes.

Sean Tierney, National Account Manager of ONOFood, said: “Meow Slush is still available along with all our other products at the other sites but St Stephen’s is all about ONODogs and shakes.

“It’s the only outlet where we operate directly and because it’s on our doorstep it’s great for testing our products and trying new ideas. It also helps us to support local suppliers and promote loyalty within the city.

“We’ve had great feedback from the start and people keep coming back because we’re introducing something new every week. We’re building a community with our ONODogs and shakes – people are ordering some of the products from our website to enjoy at home.

“The unit has created jobs for five new members of staff, all from the local area, taking our total team to 10. We expect more job opportunities to follow because we’re already seeing opportunities to expand.”

Freya Cross, Head of Business and Corporate at The Deep, said: “ONOFood has been with us since 2013 and is an example of a Business Centre client which has a significant customer base nationwide yet is very much under the radar here in Hull.

“Selling hot dogs and shakes in a place like St Stephen’s is a great way to change that, especially at this time of year, and the new stall is already supporting the company’s expansion.”
