Football tournament taking place across Humber, Coast and Vale to mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2021

A football tournament is to take place to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September 2021.

The tournament, which will take place at East Riding Leisure Beverley on Sunday 12 September aims to raise awareness of suicide prevention, particularly around men. The event has been set up by charity Hull 4 Heroes with input from representatives from local mental health and suicide prevention organisations.

According to the Office for National Statistics, there were 5,691 suicides registered in England and Wales in 2019, which amounts to around one death by suicide every 90 minutes. Yorkshire and Humber have significantly higher rates of suicide in both men and women.

Local charity teams, corporate teams or Sunday league grassroot teams are invited to enter into the tournament. A £5 donation is all it takes to enter a team with all funds raised helping local mental health organisations. Want to enter a team? Email events@hull4heroes.org.uk by 3 September 2021.

Teams can enter from all across the Humber, Coast and Vale area. The area stretches along the east coast of England from Scarborough to Cleethorpes, incorporating the cities of Hull and York and large rural areas across Northern Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire

Within the same weekend, on World Suicide Prevention Day itself, Lads FC will also be running a 24-hour tournament to raise money for Andy’s Man Club and Hull and East Yorkshire Mind. If you are interested in taking part, please DM Lad’s FC on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
