Adults in Hull and the East Riding who have thought about working for themselves can now get free, practical help to get started, with a new online course beginning every Monday.

Kick Off in Business is offering fully funded courses for local adults aged 19 and over who are unemployed, not currently working or on a low income. The courses are delivered live online, so people can join from home anywhere in Hull or the East Riding, and they are taught by tutors who run businesses of their own.
The main course, Business Start-Up, runs over two weeks and takes people from a first idea through to a workable plan. It covers the things that most often stop people from starting: working out whether an idea can pay, finding customers, pricing, and getting to grips with the money side.
Alongside it, learners can take short courses in Digital Skills, Digital Promotion, and Money and Finance. Each course leads to a recognised Level 2 qualification.
James Horn, Director of Adult Skills at Kick Off in Business, said: “Plenty of people in Hull and the East Riding have a skill, a side hustle or an idea they have been sitting on, and what they are missing is someone to show them the practical steps. That is what we do. Our tutors have all run businesses themselves, so the advice is honest and down to earth. You do not need any experience or a finished idea to join, just the interest in giving it a go.”
The courses are funded through Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Adult Skills Fund, so there is no cost to those who are eligible. Kick Off in Business checks eligibility for everyone who registers. Funding is subject to pre-screening checks.
