Give your time in Hull: Local charity shop welcomes new volunteers

Emmaus Hull & East Riding is inviting local people to volunteer in its charity shops and support the organisation’s work helping individuals who have experienced homelessness rebuild their lives.

The charity is encouraging people across Hull and the East Riding to get involved by giving their time in its shops, helping to make a real difference in the local community.

Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides people who have experienced homelessness with a home, tailored support, training, and work opportunities to help them move towards greater stability and independence. Volunteers play an important role in supporting this work, particularly within the charity’s shops and social enterprises.

A variety of volunteering roles are available in the shops, including helping serve customers, sorting and preparing donations, and supporting the day-to-day running of the retail spaces. Roles are flexible and can be shaped around different skills, interests, and availability.

The charity operates two shops in Hull, alongside an online store and house clearance service. Income from these activities helps fund ongoing support for people affected by homelessness, while also encouraging reuse and reducing waste in the community.

Stephanie Dixon, Chief Executive of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their enthusiasm, dedication and support not only help our shops thrive, but also enable us to continue supporting people who have experienced homelessness. Volunteering with Emmaus is also a fantastic way to gain valuable experience, build confidence, meet new people and become part of a welcoming community making a real difference locally.

We’d love to hear from anyone who wants to get involved, develop new skills and support a local charity that is changing lives every day.”

As the charity continues to grow its services and community engagement, Emmaus Hull & East Riding is encouraging applications from people of all backgrounds, ages and experiences.
