HoH Food Hall: East Yorkshire Bakehouse

We had a chat with Tony Bedford of East Yorkshire Bakehouse about brownies, tarts, cheesecakes and all things sweet.

It seems that barely a day goes by without another exciting development taking place at HoH Food Hall. This time it’s the launch of East Yorkshire Bakehouse, which presents a wide variety of sweet treats that can be eaten inside the comfortable food hall or taken home to enjoy.

We spoke to owner Tony Bedford about what to expect:

“East Yorkshire Bakehouse has been going for quite some time, with the main bakery based on Malmo Food and Retail Park. The wholesale side of the business sees us supplying numerous restaurants around the UK with speciality cheesecakes, whereas our stylish bakery inside HoH Food Hall is for when you want to experience our luxury bakes during your lunch break or after a day of shopping in the city centre.”

Head Baker, Matthew, focuses on creating mouth-watering baked goods. His background is very impressive, as he trained at Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxford before working at Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck in Berkshire.

“Our bakery in HoH Food Hall is our new retail offering,” said Tony. “When you visit us, you’ll receive a warm welcome and will also be greeted by rows of tarts, brownies, blondies, muffins, meringues, and our hugely popular luxury cheesecakes. Many of the flavours on offer are timeless classics and modern favourites, with some being unique to East Yorkshire Bakehouse.”

A few examples include their poached pear with chocolate and cinnamon frangipanes, a classic Bakewell, and the team’s bestselling cornflake tart. As for cheesecakes, you’ll be spoilt for choice – some of the flavours on offer include Oreo, banoffee, black cherry, Lotus Biscoff, raspberry and white chocolate, and many more interesting combinations.

“Our pecan and caramel tart is unique to East Yorkshire Bakehouse,” added Tony. “Meanwhile, our cheesecakes are made using creamy mascarpone with high-quality white chocolate melted into the mix, which ensures a richer texture and a fuller flavour.”

When entering HoH Food Hall via the main entrance opposite Paragon Interchange, you’ll find East Yorkshire Bakehouse at the far end on the right, next to the café. Thanks to this pairing of independent businesses, visitors can indulge in handmade sandwiches, toasties, breakfast ciabattas and sweet bakes from East Yorkshire Bakehouse, complemented by teas and coffees freshly made by the adjacent baristas.

“We’re delighted to be part of HoH Food Hall. Whenever you’re in the mood for a light bite or something more substantial, make sure to pop down and treat yourself.”
