HoH Food Hall: Mr Hugo

We had a chat with Lucas Billingham about the relocation of Mr Hugo from Paragon Street to HoH Food Hall.

The Mr Hugo brand first appeared in November 2021 with the opening of its first German bratwurst and kabap restaurant on Paragon Street. Following a fantastic response, the team then opened Mr Hugo’s Smokehouse inside HoH Food Hall this February, serving up authentic low ‘n’ slow BBQ. This proved to be a strong move, as footfall within the artisan food hall has been consistently high.

The success of Mr Hugo’s Smokehouse soon resulted in the management team discussing the future of the original Mr Hugo restaurant. Though its Paragon Street location has always been popular, together they decided that Mr Hugo would move into HoH Food Hall to join its American cousin.

“We’re excited to bring the two units together inside HoH Food Hall,” said Lucas Billingham, one of the restaurant’s owners. “The smokehouse has performed exceptionally well and we believe that amalgamating the two offerings into a single space will bring even more variety to customers old and new.

“The people of Hull and East Yorkshire have given us great feedback over the last six months and it’s amazing how many customers have links to Germany through family, friends or having served in the armed forces. We have a strong following and can’t wait to welcome even more people to the Mr Hugo experience.”

Lucas told us that many of the Mr Hugo favourites will soon be available at the food hall, including their wide range of German sausages and kabaps as well as the hugely popular MischMasch, a fizzy combination of cola and orange soda.

“The move also means that the Mr Hugo brand can become fully involved in HoH Food Hall’s eclectic live music programme,” added Lucas. “We’re looking forward to seeing how we can collaborate with Bug Vinyl and the many DJs and live artists who perform at the food hall.”

Lucas also said that the sense of community at HoH Food Hall is another reason for the relocation: “It’s very easy for us to set up and there’s plenty of help with PR and marketing. All of the team members are very supportive and share a genuine can-do attitude. It’s definitely a good space to be in.”

Mr Hugo will join Mr Hugo’s Smokehouse inside HoH Food Hall on Monday 16 May. Meanwhile, the team behind the brand has exciting plans for the Paragon Street unit – watch this space.
