Hull and East Yorkshire Mind shortlisted for the 2022 HSJ Partnership Awards

Local mental health charity Hull and East Yorkshire Mind is delighted to announce that they have been shortlisted for Best Not for Profit Working in Partnership with the NHS at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2022 for their work with the Humber, Coast and Vale Health and Care Partnership in supporting local people bereaved or affected by suicide.

The award shortlist recognises their outstanding contribution to healthcare, in what has been an exceptional and challenging period across the sector.

Despite the demanding circumstances of the past 2 years, over 190 entries have been received for this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards, with 123 projects making it to the final shortlist. The volume and standards of applications has been a true testament to those health and social care staff, who continue to push outstanding work and transformational projects across the sector.

Following the intense and in-depth judging process, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind working in partnership with the Humber, Coast and Vale Health and Care Partnership was shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony on 24th March 2022. Standing out amongst tough competition from hundreds of other exemplary applicants, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind working in partnership with the Humber, Coast and Vale Health and Care Partnership have been selected based on their ambition, visionary spirit and the demonstrable positive impact that their project has had on local people in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

Funded by the Humber, Coast and Vale Health and Care Partnership, The Together Service, which officially launched in May 2020, offers free emotional and practical support to individuals of any age bereaved or affected by suicide. Working with volunteers, many with their own lived experience of losing someone to suicide, the charity offer person centred care to help individuals at this difficult time in their lives. Between both organisations the service was created and designed in partnership with wider partners as well as individuals with experience of losing someone to suicide.

In 2020, there were 5,224 suicides registered in England and Wales. Yorkshire and Humber had some of the highest rates of suicide in England in recent years, with those losing someone to suicide being 65% more likely to attempt suicide themselves. In 2020, suicide rates in Yorkshire and The Humber decreased significantly compared with 2019 – with the ONS stating this was one of the only significant changes in English regions, when comparing 2020 with 2019.
