Last month, Intrasource, which has been providing IT support services to businesses in Hull for over 20 years, was audited by a qualified assessor that awarded them their Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation.
Cyber Essentials is a UK Government-backed, industry-supported scheme. The GOV.UK Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2022 results show that in the last 12 months, 39% of UK businesses identified a cyber-attack, with the average attack costing businesses £4,200. It’s not just large organisations that are targeted by cyber criminals, as 38% of UK micro and small businesses identified a cyber-attack in the official statistics.
The primary aim of the Cyber Essentials scheme is to encourage businesses of all sizes to have at least the minimum precautions put in place to protect them against common cyber-attacks.
Intrasource’s achievement is great news for existing clients and Hull-based businesses also looking to gain their own Cyber Essentials accreditations.
Lee Davison, Business Development Manager at Intrasource, said: “We have tested and maintained IT infrastructures for many years now, making sure that organisations pass their Cyber Essentials accreditations. Preventing internet-based threats from rippling down the supply chain and giving our customers peace of mind.
“The Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation is a clear indication of an organisation’s level of cybersecurity. It shows your customers that you actively try to mitigate the risk of security threats.”
The Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation is the highest level of certification on the Cyber Essentials scheme, as it requires an outside inspector to run vulnerability scans and check computers for any potential security threats.
The standard Cyber Essentials certificate does not require inspection but it does make sure that your business has at least five minimum cyber security requirements put in place:
- Firewalls
- Secure configuration
- User access control
- Malware protection
- Security update management
IT support companies such as Intrasource offer help and support to get your organisation’s security controls up to Cyber Essentials standards. This helps to take the pressure off your business and reduces your risk of being charged again for retests.
As Cyber Essentials certificates need to be recertified every year, keeping on top of your IT security is the best way to not only pass your Cyber Essentials assessment but to keep your IT network and systems safe and your organisation functioning efficiently.
The team at Intrasource are based in their modern offices in Hessle. They have a well-established presence as leading IT support providers in Hull, partnering with popular technology companies such as Datto, Microsoft, ESET, VMware and Mesh.
