Hull care home worker wins prestigious regional award

A Hull care home worker is celebrating after winning a regional award at The Great British Care Awards.

Megan Jackson, Senior Health Care Assistant at Exemplar Health Care’s Marmaduke care home in Hull, was awarded The Care Home Worker Award at the Yorkshire and Humberside regional finals.

Megan was nominated by her colleagues for her outstanding work at Marmaduke, being praised for her positive attitude and ongoing efforts to go the extra mile to make sure residents are happy and comfortable.

She was thanked by her colleagues in her nomination, which read: “Megan’s work ethic is incredible, her drive to do everything she can to support our residents is just one of the reasons she has been nominated. Megan goes above and beyond to support the people we care for and her colleagues, and her commitment to her role is always being recognised.”

The judges recognised Sharon’s hard work, saying: “Since joining Marmaduke earlier this year, Megan has gone from new starter to social care to Senior Health Care Assistant, tackling the work day with a calm approach and a clear passion and dedication to her role.”

At Marmaduke, Megan and the team support people living with complex mental health needs and neuro-disabilities. The team’s person-centred approach to care aims to support people to maximise their independence, build their everyday life skills, and live a life as fulfilled as possible.

Commenting on the win, Megan said: “I feel honoured to have won this award with all the great care that goes on in our sector. Since joining Exemplar Health Care, I have grown to really love my job, the team I work with are amazing and the residents at the home are great too. I am very thankful for being nominated for this position.”

Katie Capes, Home Manager at Marmaduke, said: “We’re really proud of Megan for winning this award. This is her first time working in a social care setting, and she has excelled since joining the team at Marmaduke. She has taken an interest in dementia care, and has supported the home to develop a dementia friendly environment through researching the best ways to place furniture to reduce falls, and implementing simple measures such as glow in the dark light switches, to make people’s home as comfortable and safe as it can be.”

This year’s Great British Care Awards celebrated frontline workers throughout the United Kingdom for providing exceptional care. The regional winners will now go on to the national finals in Birmingham in March hoping to win the UK-wide award.
