A Hull-based company has completed work on a luxurious new £6m care home that sits just two miles from York city centre, and its first residents are immediately moving in.

Clifton Hall has been developed by Brough based Yorkare and was built by Hull’s, Hobson & Porter. This latest development is the ninth project that the two companies have worked together on.
Located off Shipton Road, next to York Sports Club, Clifton Hall comprises of 60 attractive en-suite rooms that are available for residential, respite and day care. One floor of the three-storey building has also been designed specifically for those requiring dementia care.
The building sits in extensive landscaped gardens and grounds, complete with a bowling green and raised planting areas. Another key feature is its extensive range of first-class facilities which include two in-house bars, restaurant-standard dining rooms, a cinema and a full beauty and hairdressing salon.
As part of the development, Yorkare has gifted a parcel of land to the neighbouring York Sports Club, which has enabled several new pitches to be created.
Shane Talbot, homes manager at Yorkare, said: “At Clifton Hall, we’ve created a home that blends comfort, elegance and a real sense of community. Luxury here isn’t just about beautiful surroundings – it’s about how people feel. Every detail at Clifton Hall has been thoughtfully designed to ensure residents can enjoy fulfilling lives with comfort, dignity and joy.
“The home’s grounds overlook nearby York Sports fields, offering wonderful open views that are perfect for sports enthusiasts and for those who simply enjoy watching the activity and energy of the local community. It’s a setting that brings together exceptional outlooks and a strong sense of connection to the wider area.
“We’ve already received a fantastic level of interest, with enquiries continuing to come in and people visiting the home every day. This demonstrates the strong demand for exceptional care homes that truly stand out in this sought-after part of North Yorkshire.”
Hobson & Porter’s managing director, Richard Hunter, said: “This development has seen a redundant medical centre demolished to make way for a magnificent new care home that has completely transformed this disused site – all in less than 18 months! This is testament to the hard work of the entire development team and our supply chain.
“After successfully delivering eight other care homes for Yorkare throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, this one is arguably the best yet. It’s in a fantastic location overlooking the tennis courts, cricket and rugby pitches at York Sports Club and is a striking building in stunning grounds that genuinely enhances and complements the surrounding area. As a company, it’s a superb development for us to be associated with.”
