The Emmaus Fun Day will take place on Saturday 6 July at the Emmaus Furniture Superstore on Lockwood Street. The event is an opportunity for the charity to say thank you to its local supporters and raise funds for the support offered to people who experience homelessness.

Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. In addition to its residential community in Hull, Emmaus also delivers an outreach service, providing direct support to people who are street homeless.

Holly Allen, Retail Supervisor at Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “We’re really excited for our Emmaus Fun Day in July and have lots planned including a bouncy castle, face painting, entertainment and charity tombola. Our Superstore will be filled with lots of bargains and we’ll have a range of stall holders providing food, drinks and craft items. We’re encouraging all Emmaus supporters as well as local residents to bring their family and friends to this free event in support of a good cause.”

Emmaus Hull & East Riding’s residential community can provide a home for up to 30 people, known to the charity as Emmaus companions. When people join the community, they are offered the opportunity to gain skills, training, confidence, and new experiences.

Social enterprise is central to the Emmaus model as it provides work experience to Emmaus companions, but also generates funding to sustain the residential community. Everyone supported by the charity contributes to the best of their ability within the Emmaus charity shops, out on the vans, in the warehouse and community.

Emmaus Hull & East Riding’s charity shops stock a wide range of donated and refurbished furniture, affordable household items, electrical appliances, clothes, bric-a-brac, books, music and bikes. As well as the Emmaus Furniture Superstore (32 Lockwood Street) Emmaus also has a charity shop in Newland (193 Newland Avenue) and the large Emmaus Emporium (51 Whitefriargate).
