Homelessness charity Emmaus Hull & East Riding marks Volunteers’ Week 2025 with an appeal for new volunteers to get involved.

Volunteers’ Week returns this year after reaching its 40th anniversary last year. From 2 to 8 June 2025, Emmaus Hull & East Riding will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.
Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. In addition to their residential community in Hull, Emmaus also delivers an outreach service, providing direct support to people who are street homeless.
Stephanie Dixon, Director of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “We’re using Volunteers’ Week 2025 to say a huge thank you to our current volunteers and trustees, and also appealing for new volunteers to get involved. Volunteering with Emmaus is a chance to use your skills and experience for a worthwhile cause, get more active, meet new people and make a positive impact in your community.”
Emmaus is appealing for new volunteers to get involved either as charity trustees, within their Hull charity shops or in support of the East Riding outreach service. All Emmaus Hull & East Riding volunteers contribute to the charity’s mission of working together to overcome homelessness and social exclusion.
Jean, an Emmaus volunteer who helps at the charity’s Emporium on Whitefriargate in Hull, commented: “I’ve been volunteering at Emmaus Hull & East Riding since 2023 and I love coming here – it’s one of the highlights of my week.
“I polish and dust all the furniture but that’s not my main job. Whilst volunteering, I chat to the customers and chat with the lads and ladies who live at Emmaus. In a way, I feel that’s part of my role – being here and chatting with people.”
Established in 1984, Volunteers’ Week provides a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills. The campaign highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work across the UK.
