Homelessness charity Emmaus Hull & East Riding is celebrating after raising £10k to replace two vans used for its homeless outreach service.

Emmaus Hull & East Riding launched an urgent fundraising appeal in May to replace two essential vans that had broken beyond repair. The charity received more than 30 donations and support from local fundraisers, reaching their target in less than two months.

Stephanie Dixon, Director of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “Our community was blown away by the response to our outreach van appeal and is extremely grateful to everyone who has made a donation. Using the funds, we’ve already purchased one replacement van and are currently sourcing the second.”

Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. In addition to their residential community, the charity also delivers an outreach service, providing direct support to people who are street homeless.

Stephanie added: “Our Emmaus outreach team cover many miles each week, providing support and distributing items to people who are street homeless. Having reliable vans that enable our team to reach people in often remote locations is an essential part of the support package we offer, breaking the cycle of homelessness.”

The charity’s outreach team includes trained support workers, local volunteers and people with lived experience of homelessness. The team travels across the East Riding to meet people who are street homeless and provide friendly advice, items, signposting and access to further support.

As well as donations from charity supporters and members of the public, Emmaus Hull & East Riding received a generous donation from charitable funder and £1k raised at a charity ‘Florida scramble’ golf day at Kilnwick Percy Golf Club in Pocklington.
