Hull homelessness charity to host Christmas Fayre

This December, homelessness charity Emmaus Hull & East Riding is hosting a free family-friendly Christmas Fayre at their charity Emporium on 51 Whitefriargate.

The Emmaus Hull & East Riding Christmas Fayre will take place on Saturday 2 December, 11am-3pm. The charity event will include stalls, activities, a visit from Santa and cakes along with a sale on all decorations, trees, gifts and stocking fillers.

Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. All proceeds raised from the sale of items at the Christmas Fayre will go to support people who live in The Orchard, Emmaus Hull & East Riding’s 30-bedroom community home.

Stephanie Cooper, Director of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “Everyone is invited to come along to our Christmas Fayre and give their support. We’ll have a festive mix of activities along with sweet treats and our Emporium will be filled with a wide range of affordable pre-loved items.

“Our Christmas Fayre is also the final day for people to donate items to our Hull Women’s Aid solidarity Christmas appeal. If you are able to join us, please bring any donations of new gifts, toiletries, toys and games which will be shared with women and children fleeing domestic abuse.”

Emmaus Hull & East Riding has selected Hull Women’s Aid to benefit from the charity’s annual Christmas appeal. The concept of solidarity, helping others in greater need, is central to the Emmaus ethos and a motivation for the Christmas appeal. Hull Women’s Aid provides safe accommodation and refuge for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.

People who are supported by Emmaus, known to the charity as companions, are offered the opportunity to gain skills, training, confidence, and new experiences. In addition to their residential community, the charity also delivers an outreach service, providing direct support to people who are street homeless.

Companions of Emmaus help in their social enterprise at one of three charity stores in Hull. All of the money generated from the Emmaus social enterprise is re-invested to support disadvantaged people in Hull and across the East Riding.

The Emmaus Christmas Fayre will take place on Saturday 2 December, 11am-3pm, at the Emmaus Emporium, 51 Whitefriargate, Hull, HU1 2HP. To find out more about the event and their solidarity appeal, visit the Emmaus Hull & East Riding website: https://emmaus.org.uk/hull
