Hull bus operator, Stagecoach East Midlands, has given some ‘top tips’ to young people catching the bus for the first time, as the number of children travelling by bus has grown due to the Kids Go Free scheme this August.
Matt Cranwell Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “We have been delighted by the numbers of young people who have chosen to give the bus a go since the start of the Kids Go Free scheme on 1st August – and there is still time to take advantage, because the scheme runs all month.
“The bus is a wonderful way to get around, but it can be a new experience for a lot of people, so we thought it would be the ideal opportunity to highlight some top tips on how passengers can make sure they have the best possible experience.”

Before you set off:
— Tell your parent, guardian or another trusted adult where you’re going.
— Practise your journey with a parent or guardian before travelling on your own.
— Travelling with friends? Arrange to meet at the bus stop and travel together.
— Charge your phone, and download the Stagecoach Bus App before you leave home.
During your journey:
— Use headphones to keep music and videos at a sensible volume so you can hear important announcements.
— Stay seated while the bus is moving.
— Keep your bag and belongings with you.
— If you ever feel worried or unsafe, sit near the driver and let them know.
As part of the government’s Great British Summer Savings Scheme, children aged from five to 15 can travel with Stagecoach for free all of August, with only a few special services exempt. Children under five years old can travel for free all year round.
