Hull primary school celebrates pupils’ national reading success

Croxby Primary in Hull are celebrating two of their students who were nationally recognised for their reading achievements and efforts.

Theo

The title of Home Reading Champion was awarded to year three pupil Theo B for his dedication to expanding his reading outside of the classroom.

Lindsay Lindsay, assistant headteacher at Croxby Primary, said: “We are thrilled one of our students won! It’s a fantastic achievement for both Theo and our Croxby community, and it’s wonderful to see them recognised for their efforts.”

Reading Solutions UK, providers of DreamBox Reading Plus, organise initiatives to support their programme’s efforts in improving students’ reading skills and promoting reading for pleasure.

Sharing his experience with Reading Plus, Theo said: “I like Reading Plus because I’m learning how to read. I love the non-fiction texts – they are my favourite because they are full of facts and I learn new things. I love to learn.”

Fellow Croxby pupil Charlie Bielby from year 4 was named a Reading Plus Champion for his excellence within the programme and was one of fifteen pupils selected from the 130,000 students who use the programme.

Charlie

Lindsay continued: “We’re immensely proud of Charlie for being recognised as a Reading Plus Champion. It reflects the dedication and hard work, as well as the school’s commitment to fostering a love for reading.”

Charlie said: “I’m really proud of myself – it’s great news! I’m looking forward to all the new and fascinating things I’ll be doing with Reading Plus!”

Lindsay finished: “We’d wholeheartedly recommend Reading Plus. It not only enhances academic performance but also empowers students to become independent learners. The programme’s adaptability means it caters to individual needs, making it a valuable tool for all learners. It’s a fantastic way to track progress, celebrate achievements, and cultivate a reading culture within your school.”

Lee Carrick, Senior Reading Development Consultant at Reading Solutions UK, said: “Theo and Charlie’s commitment to furthering their reading is fantastic. We can’t wait to see what else they achieve and continue to support them on their reading journey.”
