GEW was founded to celebrate and empower entrepreneurs in every country and community around the world, especially those individuals who face barriers or may have never considered the idea of launching their own start-up.
This year’s programme will take place from 13-17 November 2023, with events in the Guildhall, at Sewell Group Craven Park and at primary and secondary schools across Hull as part of the city’s youth enterprise eco-system.
It will culminate with announcing the winners of the Hull and East Riding Youth Enterprise Awards 2023 in the Guildhall.
This year, the international theme is ‘Entrepreneurs Thrive Here’, where young entrepreneurs will link up with like-minded people from South Africa and Australia.
Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, portfolio holder for regeneration at Hull City Council, said: “Hull is proud to be celebrating 20 years of its work in promoting enterprise skills and youth entrepreneurship, first via Enterprise Week and now via Global Entrepreneurship Week.
“The week is all about how small ideas can take root and become viable business plans, with the potential to grow into sustainable companies.
“The council hopes to set an aspirational agenda for today’s young people in the city to set up their own businesses, start social enterprises and cooperatives, improve their communities and/or become enterprising students or employees.”
GEW 2023 is supported by Hull City Council, the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank, Yorkshire in Business, the Micro Business Alliance, Engaging Education, Design Over Technology Ltd, T Arran Photography and many young entrepreneurs.
Marc Ortmans, chair of GEN UK and GEW UK, added: “Over the last 20 years, Hull has played a significant part every year in celebrating what it does to support enterprise skills and youth entrepreneurship.
“As a city it has always demonstrated its commitment to engaging with enterprising young people and sharing good practice with young people across the UK and the rest of the world.
“Hull City Council and its partners’ reputation for involvement in this celebration of entrepreneurship across the world is well known and a role model for others to follow.”
