Humber Rescue volunteers answer Boxing Day callout

Humber Rescue’s dedicated volunteers proved once again that their commitment knows no bounds, as they responded to a Boxing Day callout at 14:09 on 26th December 2024.

Tasked by Humber Coastguard, the team launched their lifeboat into foggy and low-visibility conditions to assist with an incident in the vicinity of the River Humber.

Despite the challenging weather, the sea state remained calm, enabling the crew to operate safely as they navigated the fog. Working alongside HM Coastguard Hornsea and Hull Coastguard Rescue Team, the lifeboat crew conducted their search and remained on task for just under two hours before being stood down with thanks by the Coastguard.

Dave Roberts, Chairman of Humber Rescue, said, “This Boxing Day callout highlights the extraordinary dedication of our volunteer crew. While most people were enjoying the festive period, our team demonstrated once again that they are always ready to respond, regardless of the day or time. Their professionalism ensured that this incident was brought to a positive resolution.”

Roberts also emphasised the importance of the public’s support for the charity.

“Humber Rescue operates entirely through the generosity of our supporters. Every donation ensures that we can continue to be on call 24/7, even during holiday celebrations, to keep people safe on and around the water. We’re incredibly proud of our volunteers and grateful for the community that enables us to carry out this essential work.”

The incident was resolved positively, and this Boxing Day callout marked the 115th callout for Humber Rescue in 2024, underscoring the team’s role in providing critical search and rescue services for one of the busiest waterways in Europe.
