Humber Wave Radio launches new digital radio platform across Hull and Beverley

West Hull Community Radio (WHCR) has been broadcasting continuously to Hull since 2007 as West Hull FM 106.9FM, and was the first community station to gain a license to broadcast in the region.

Neil Tattersall, presenter of the early breakfast show, shares some hints and tips with trainee presenter Max McBride in the Willerby Road Studios of Humber Wave Radio

WHCR will be launching a local DAB+ digital radio platform in the coming weeks that will cover a wide area around Hull and Beverley. Reflecting this wider audience, the station has now rebranded as Humber Wave Radio.

Adey Wright, Managing Director of WHCR, said: “As the region’s biggest community station, we have benefitted from other broadcasters pulling out of the city or, in the case of the BBC, reducing staQ costs in favour of their internet platforms. Our service broadcasts 24 hours a day and touches more places than ever before. Our new digital radio platform increases this reach even further. We all know the future is digital, and we are excited to once again be pioneers in broadcasting the first truly local digital service to Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire as Humber Wave Radio.”

Humber Wave Radio is supported by a “volunteer army” of amateur and professional radio presenters who produce programming for the surrounding communities. As well as talk, news, sport and local information, Humber Wave Radio plays classic hits from the 1960s though to best new music of today.

Richard Moore, WHCR Technical Director, said: “We have been a springboard for some great radio talent over the years. We welcome anyone who would like to try their hand at broadcasting to get in touch – it doesn’t matter if you are young, old or have any previous experience, as we provide full training. All you need to provide is the enthusiasm and desire to reach out to the community.”

Humber Wave Radio is supported by advertising and sponsorship, giving businesses the opportunity support a local station and get your message heard by thousands of potential customers in the area. Advertising packages start from as little as £150, and now is a great time to harness the energy and attention Humber Wave Radio is receiving for your own product or service. Radio is a trusted friend and its advertising reaches everywhere – at home, in the car, at work.

Humber Wave Radio can be found on 106.9FM, on Hull DAB from mid-April, or online at www.humberwave.com
