Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment Service launches to support people in Hull and East Riding

A Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment service has been developed to support Hull and East Riding residents who may be facing barriers to accessing Employment, Education or to gaining Functional Skills in Maths and English.

The service team is made up of Employment Specialists, Health and Wellbeing Coaches and Recovery College Practitioners, who are on hand to provide support, tailored to individual need, for those wishing to:

  • Make positive lifestyle changes to improve wellbeing and increase chances of gaining and sustaining employment and education
  • Improve employment-based skills, such as writing a CV, job searching and applications, preparing for interview and learning from feedback
  • Improve confidence and reduce anxieties around employment and education – including support with possible implication to benefits
  • Prepare for employment by gaining functional skills in Maths and English
  • Become more physically, mentally and economically active!

The service works in close partnership with the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s Prevention, Recovery and Wellbeing teams, providing wrap around, hybrid support to those who need it most, including those most isolated and at risk of social exclusion.

Having a Recovery College Practitioner as part of the team also allows service users to benefit from a variety of educational tools and free online courses available within the Trust’s Humber Recovery and Wellbeing College.

Since its recent launch, the service has taken over 100 referrals and team members are already seeing the very real social impact of the work they are doing. Feedback from those supported so far has been positive. You can read Paul’s story here: Paul Foster – StepChange – NHS Humber Teaching (step-change.co.uk) and Michael’s here: Michael Barraclough – StepChange – Humber Wellbeing Recovery Service (step-change.co.uk)

Paul tells us how his new job has given him a ‘reason to get out of the house’, and Michael feels the support he has received has helped him to ‘now have hope for [his] future’.

The Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment service forms part of the Employability Wellbeing Service project, which is part-funded by the European Social Fund. The project is delivered by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust professionals, in partnership with Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Tigers Sport and Education Trust and Hull and East Yorkshire Mind.

Fernanda Marbrow, Support Manager at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“Humber Wellbeing Recovery Employment Service offers individualised, wrap around support to those who need it most. Whatever your barriers to employment or education may be, our team are here to support you.

From taking those first steps to increase skills and confidence, preparing for a work trial or an interview, to starting a new job or course – we’ll be with you every step of the way.”

Support is available to those aged 16+ who reside within Hull and the East Riding, have the right to live and work in the UK and are unemployed / economically inactive at point of referral.
