IDAS is the largest specialist charity in the North supporting people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. Their team strives to deliver inclusive and high-quality support and accommodation to anyone who is subject to domestic or sexual abuse.

They began their work in the 1970’s when they were one of the first refuge providers in the UK, opening their local women’s refuge with the help of a York businessman who donated a two-bedroom flat where women in need could escape. This has now grown into a specialist charity with many years of experience, where in 2022 they housed over 250 families, answered 25,000 helpline calls, trained 8,000 professionals and supported 10,000 people in the community.

IDAS currently offer a range of services including, guidance and support to victims and survivors of dometic and sexual abuse; accommodating families and individuals that need to escape abuse; supporting young people and children across North Yorkshire through their Respect Young People’s Programme and their Domestic Abuse Whole Family Approach; and delivering group peer support sessions to hundreds of people.

The donation was given to IDAS as part of Barratt & David Wilson Developments’ Community Fund initiative, allowing their internal Charity Committee to choose a charity each month. This programme allows Barratt Developments to showcase the amazing charity work done in the local communities.

Sarah Hill, CEO at IDAS said: “We are extremely grateful to Barratt & David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East for this generous donation.

“The donation will directly benefit the individuals and families that are in our refuges who are there to escape from abuse, helping us to provide high-quality, safe accommodation for anyone who needs it.”

Daniel Smith, Managing Director of Barratt & David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East, “We are honoured to be able to support IDAS and the amazing work that they do with this donation. IDAS have been supporting people in Yorkshire for nearly 50 years, which is comforting to know that support from experienced people is there for the residents in the areas we build.

“With this donation, our aim is to assist IDAS in offering the extensive services they provide that create a significant difference to the lives of the individuals they help.”
