Join experts to discuss how Humber businesses can shatter the glass ceiling

A new free event this January will bring experts together to discuss how recruiting more women leaders can make Humber businesses more successful.

Shattering The Glass Ceiling: How Women Leaders Can Mean Better Business is designed for business leaders, HR and recruitment professionals, and those who want to see more diversity in business.  The event, which is free to sign up to, will take place at the Aura Innovation Centre at Bridgehead Business Park on Friday 20 January, at midday.

A panel discussion will give practical advice on overcoming the challenges around recruiting more women and promoting women to leadership positions.  Experts will discuss why having more women leaders makes your business better, how you can attract more women to your team, and how you can support and encourage more women to move into management.

With expert panellists from the University of Hull, HR specialists and representatives from industry, the event will cover what you can do to really make a difference to diversity and inclusion for your business.

There will also be the opportunity to find out about free leadership courses, provided by the University of Hull, in partnership with the European Social Fund-financed Humber Women in the Workforce programme, which are available to women living and working in the region.

Louise Smith, Director of Aura at the University of Hull, a collaboration of renewable energy partners, will be chairing the panel discussion, and highlighted the fact that many businesses in the region don’t know where to start with getting more women on board.

“Ask any business leader in industry, and they’ll tell you that they would like a better gender balance in their teams,” she said.  “However, even those that are encouraging more women to apply to entry-level jobs aren’t always seeing this translated into management positions.”

“We wanted to put on this event to discuss the challenges that businesses face, particularly small and medium size companies, and give practical, useful advice from experts to businesses so that they can see the benefits that a diverse team can bring to their business.”
