Lee Mead and Neil Hurst set sights on festive ball as casting announced for Cinderella

Marvel at the majesty of Prince Charming this Christmas as TV actor and musical theatre royalty Lee Mead joins the cast of Hull New Theatre’s magical pantomime, Cinderella, alongside Hull’s favourite funny man Neil Hurst, who returns for his fourth season.

Lee Mead

Rising to fame as the winner of the BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do, Lee Mead won the title role in the West End revival of Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to rave reviews. Since then, he has had lead roles in Wicked and Legally Blonde in the West End, released several solo albums and toured extensively. He also starred as Ben “Lofty” Chiltern in Casualty, a role he reprised on the popular spin-off series, Holby City.  Recently Lee playedBilly Flynn in the hit musical Chicago and this summer he will star in the London Coliseum production of We Will Rock You.  Cinderella sees him swap his medical gowns for something more regal in the role of The Prince.

Playing everyone’s favourite comic, the loveable Buttons, is comedian Neil Hurst. Perhaps best-known for his roles in The Syndicate and Fresh Meat, Neil also co-hosted ITVs All Star Family Fortunes, starred alongside John Malkovich and Rupert Grint in The ABC Murders for the BBC and has appeared in family favourites such as Coronation Street, All Creatures Great and Small, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and Casualty.

Neil Hurst

Hull New Theatre’s pantomime is produced by the world’s biggest panto producer, Crossroads Pantomimes, whose Chief Executive Michael Harrison said: “I am so excited to have Lee and Neil with us in panto this year in Hull. Every year Lee is a hit with audiences up and down the country wherever he performs, and Neil never fails to make the Hull crowds laugh year on year with his Yorkshire charm. The two of them together on stage is a recipe for a magical Christmas indeed.”

Hull theatregoers shall go to the ball this Christmas as Cinderella transforms from rags to riches, outwits her wicked stepsisters, and with the help of her hilarious friend and one very magical Fairy Godmother meets her Prince Charming.

Further casting to be announced.
