Local housebuilder delivers ice creams to NHS staff in Hessle for NHS anniversary celebrations

Local housebuilder, Barratt Homes, has given thanks to NHS workers in Hessle with free ice creams as part of its NHS 75th anniversary celebrations.

Barratt Homes believes in supporting the communities in which it builds, and on Wednesday 5 July the housebuilder joined the many NHS 75th anniversary commemorations in the area. Barratt Homes organised an ice cream van to pay a visit to NHS staff at an office based on Harrow Street in Hessle, where they could enjoy a free ice cream as part of their celebrations.

Although not patient-facing, the ice creams were delivered to two of the most important teams in the NHS community. The first being the District Medical Records team, which is a vital cog in the NHS services for patients. The second is the Central Decontamination Unit, which is responsible for processing, sterilising and packing surgical and clinical equipment. The staff in the department can package thousands of pivotal pieces of equipment every day.

Rachel Johnson, Head of Communications for Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “The NHS is made up of so many teams working together to provide great care, some of whom are the clinical staff who see and treat our patients, but there are many more working behind the scenes to make sure everything goes smoothly.

“The ice cream van visit to Harrow Street provided the opportunity to say thank you to just some of those people, including staff working in medical records, sterile services, estates and facilities.

“We’re really grateful to Barratt Homes for thinking of us and for helping us to celebrate the NHS’s 75th anniversary in this way.”

Linzi Bentley, Sales Manager at Barratt Homes Fleet Green development in Hessle, said: “We’re so proud to be celebrating 75 years of the NHS on the doorstep of our Fleet Green development.

“The District Medical Records and the Central Decontamination Unit are some of the most important departments within the service, and we’re so pleased we could help them mark the occasion with a treat on the NHS’s sunny anniversary.

“This is just a small token from Barratt Homes to the NHS to thank them for their years of service and how much they support our residents in the areas that we build.”

What’s more, in honour of the anniversary, Barratt Developments has extended its Key Workers Deposit Contribution Scheme to the 15th December 2023. The scheme enables key workers a deposit contribution of £1,000 for every £20,000 spent on all reservations taken before 15th December, and can receive up to the value of £25,000. Alongside NHS employees, the scheme also assists key workers including teachers, police and fire services, the MOD, prison and probation services, plus the Local Authority employees and National Highways.

On top of extending the deposit scheme, Barratt Developments is also donating £75,000 to celebrate the 75 th anniversary of the NHS. The three charities each receiving £25,000 are: NHS Charities Together, The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and the Florence Nightingale Foundation.

The District Medical Records, Central Decontamination Unit and Hull Royal Infirmary are located just five miles from Barratt Homes Fleet Green development in Hessle. Three and four-bedroom homes are available from £235,000. A variety of deals are currently available on a selection of homes, which buyers can choose to go towards deposit boosts, help with moving costs, as well as upgrades to their home.
